Parus Albert Schaeffer, Dante Revisited, 2023.

 A bold undertaking: In the new year, I have begun illustrations of Dante's Divine Comedy. It is a journey into the heart of art - and into a world that is very far away and very close. With the bilingual Reclam edition after the translation by Hartmut Köhler as a travel companion.

Ein kühnes Unterfangen: Im neuen Jahr habe ich mit Illustrationen zu Dantes Göttlicher Komödie angefangen.  Es ist eine Reise in das Herz der Kunst - und in eine Welt, die sehr weit entfernt und sehr nah ist. Mit der zweisprachigen Reclam-Ausgabe nach der Übersetzung von Hartmut Köhler als Reisebegleiter.

It is a longing for simplicity in a complex world.  Minimalism, which emerged in the mid-20th century, has lost none of its relevance for me. People often think of art as a representation of some aspect of the real world - a landscape, a person, an object - or as a reflection of an experience or a feeling. My paintings do not represent an external reality; rather, the viewer can respond to what they see in front of them. "What you see is what you see" (Frank Stella) In meinem jüngsten Werk ist eine Hinwendung zum Minimalismus zu erkennen.
